Excerpt from “8. MEMORIALS”:

Hero’s Memorial

Hero came to us when he was just a couple of months old. We were contacted by our local humane society to see if we could take this badly injured kitten who was not adoptable. Their staff had fallen in love with him and could not stand the thought of euthanizing him. Although Hero could move his back legs, he could not walk on them, though sometimes he could run. He was also bladder incontinent. It turned out that he had spina bifida. To him, his body was fine, and it seemed his body never stopped him from enjoying his life. He was loved beyond measure, and everyone took extraordinary care of him and gave him the opportunity at a life he otherwise would not have had.

He was three years old when he passed into Spirit—most likely from lymphoma. No one had thought that he would live for even six months. He left behind his special cat friend Twiggy and his parrot friend Merlin, and a staff and volunteers who grieved deeply for our loss.
